CPS Energy's nuclear expansion plan is a good investment, but a new natural gas plant could also be a cost-effective way to meet San Antonio's future energy needs, according to a just-released consultant's analysis.
The Brattle Group, hired by the city to provide a second opinion about CPS' multibillion-dollar nuclear proposal, generally supports building two more reactors at the South Texas Project. The firm found that under most scenarios nuclear power offers the city and utility more value than a natural gas plant or buying energy from the market.
